Riddles in the Dark 2.11: We’ll Always Have the Carrock

Bromancing the (Arken)Stone on Riddles in the Dark!

Tolkien Professor Corey Olsen and co-hosts Dave Kale and Trish Lambert talk relationships in The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug: Specifically, Bilbo’s and Thorin’s relationship; generally, Bilbo’s relationships with the rest of the Company (including Gandalf).  Getting their bearings by reviewing Tolkien’s portrayal of the hobbit and the Dwarf King, our intrepid trio consider the direction Peter Jackson’s appears to have taken in the first movie of the trilogy, and what kind arc the relationship will take to the conclusion-everyone-knows-it-will-have in the third movie. Talk also touches on the others in the Company who aid and advise Bilbo in both book and film, as well as the relationship that Bilbo has with Gandalf on page and on screen.
