Tolkien Professor hosts LOTR film marathon, meals, discussion this weekend

Mythgard President and Tolkien Professor Corey Olsen will be hosting his annual Tolkien Lord of the Rings film marathon, complete with several hobbit-style meals and plenty of intermission discussion, tomorrow – Saturday, November 12 – on the Washington College campus, where Olsen is Assistant Professor of English.  It’s a great (and unique) opportunity to watch all three LOTR extended editions, back-to-back and on the big screen again, with commentary from Professor Olsen.  The event will be held in Norman James Theatre in the William Smith Building on Washington College’s campus (300 Washington Ave., Chestertown MD 21620) and is open to students, staff, faculty, and interested community Tolkien-ites who can make it!

Festivities kick off at 10:00am with breakfast and part 1 of The Fellowship of the Ring and wrap up around 1:15am the next morning, post-dessert, with the end of The Return of the King.  During the intermissions, we’ll be hosting half-hour discussions of the LOTR films and books, which The Tolkien Professor will be recording into podcast format.  For those who can’t make it to the event in person, we’ll be posting updates throughout the day to the Mythgard Facebook page and our Twitter feed.  You can also check back here at the blog for live updates.  But trust me, you don’t want to miss out on such yummy goodies as sausages and nice crispy bacon, Naz-goulash, roasted po-ta-toes with Ent-draught and Lembas bread, and – of course – our famous and controversial Balrog Wings!
