The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride

The Mythgard Academy takes on another icon of the modern fantasy world as we discuss William Goldman’s The Princess Bride. Goldman insists, of course, that he has merely put together an “abridgement” of the national epic of Florin (that thriving European nation rich with history and tradition which you can easily find right across the channel from Guilder), which was penned by its (incontestably) most widely heralded author, S. Morgenstern. In this class, we will look at this fun and complex blend of comical story and satirical commentary, as well as spending time discussing the even more famous film version of the story. As part of the Mythgard Academy series, the class is tuition-free and open to the public. The first 100 participants for each session are able to participate in the discussion live, and both video and audio recordings of the classes will be available on this web page, through the Mythgard podcast feed, and on our iTunes U course.

Like all Mythgard Academy classes, this course is made possible by the generosity of everyone who supported our fundraising campaign last fall. The topics of our Academy classes are nominated and elected entirely by our generous donors.

If you missed our fundraising campaign but would still like to take part in our class voting process to decide our future topics for the rest of the year, it isn’t too late! Visit our donation page and help support our free classes!

To help our students interact with each other and support one another in their learning, Mythgard provides several interaction opportunities. One is the chat available on this page (at the bottom right of this screen), which you can use to chat with other students during class. There is a little icon on the bottom left pane of the chat widget to open the chat in a separate window, which you should find useful. Next, we have a free forum open to all students, made possible through Signum University. We will use this forum as our class discussion board. You must register in order to use the forums, but this is a simple process of filling out the registration form (please note that the same registration is used for RITD and the Mythgard Academy, so you only need to register once!). Also, please go to the page and “Like” our Mythgard Academy Facebook page to get updates and reminders about the class.

The Princess Bride is available from Amazon. It can be purchased in hardcover, paperback or electronic formats.
